Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel has said the Maldivian government is closely monitoring the safety of Maldivians living and traveling in the Middle East, as tensions continue to escalate between Iran and Israel.

With the conflict nearing its second week, analysts warn that the situation in the region could deteriorate further. In a post on X, Minister Khaleel said the Foreign Ministry and Maldivian missions abroad are actively tracking developments, particularly amid airspace closures in several Middle Eastern countries.

“I urge Maldivians currently living in or visiting the Middle East to remain vigilant, take note of airspace restrictions, and follow official guidance from the respective governments,” he wrote.

The ongoing conflict, launched under Israel’s “Rising Lion” operation, has involved major strikes on Iran’s nuclear and military sites. Iran has responded with heavy retaliatory attacks, raising fears of a broader regional war.

While no evacuation has been announced, Minister Khaleel reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding the well-being of all Maldivians abroad.
