Thailand’s Constitutional Court has suspended Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra from office amid an investigation into a leaked phone call with a former Cambodian leader.

The court announced on Tuesday that it had unanimously accepted a petition accusing Paetongtarn of an ethics breach. In a 7-2 vote, the judges also ordered her immediate suspension from official duties.

The controversy stems from a diplomatic phone call made during escalating tensions with Cambodia, following a May 28 border clash that left one Cambodian soldier dead. The leaked call sparked public backlash and protests, intensifying criticism of Paetongtarn’s handling of the situation.

An acting prime minister is expected to be appointed while the investigation proceeds.
