President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that a new seaplane platform will be established in N. Velidhoo, expected to become operational by January 2026. The announcement was made during his visit to the island as part of his tour of South Miladhunmadulu Atoll.

In his address to residents, the President also revealed that sea ambulance services will begin in January, with vessels to be stationed in Velidhoo. While a domestic airport is planned for nearby Vihafaru, he noted that Velidhoo will benefit from dedicated seaplane access.

President Muizzu also launched several key development projects during his visit, including a new hospital, a Community-Based Rehabilitation Centre, and a boatyard land reclamation project. A separate groundbreaking ceremony was held for a new police station.

Addressing a petition signed by 600 residents regarding harbour issues, the President assured that the matter will be reviewed with technical experts. If budget limitations prevent immediate action, he confirmed the harbour project will be scheduled for next year.

Looking ahead, the President announced new projects for 2026, including housing units, school facility upgrades, and the construction of a futsal stadium and a multi-sports complex—set to be contracted in September.

President Muizzu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to a citizen-focused development agenda.
