President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the importance of prioritizing national interest to achieve holistic development during the official inauguration of the new terminal at Velana International Airport.

Speaking at the ceremony, held in conjunction with the 60th anniversary of the Maldives' independence, President Muizzu urged all Maldivians to commit to unity and shared purpose. He said the new terminal stands as a symbol of what can be achieved through collective national effort, and emphasized that true sovereignty requires economic self-reliance.



Highlighting the terminal’s key role in driving economic growth and boosting tourism, the President noted the deliberate timing of the inauguration on Independence Day. He also expressed gratitude to all who contributed to the project over the past decade, including former Presidents Abdulla Yameen and Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

President Muizzu acknowledged the support of international partners, including the Saudi Fund for Development, the OPEC Fund, the Kuwait Fund, and the Abu Dhabi Fund. He praised the collaboration and commitment that ensured the timely completion of the terminal.



The President concluded by stressing that success is achieved through the combined efforts of many, and celebrated the terminal as a testament to the nation's progress.
