President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, delivering his address at the 60th Independence Day ceremony held this morning at the Maldives Centre for Social Education (MCSE), emphasized that genuine national progress requires more than visible development—it must be rooted in individual character, self-improvement, and shared national values.
He noted that while development is now unfolding across the country and will continue with momentum, true progress would remain superficial unless Maldivians embrace their identity, take pride in the Dhivehi language and faith, and honour the sacrifices made by national heroes.
Reflecting on the legacy of independence, the President described it as a hard-won achievement founded on the courage and patriotism of past generations. He said that preserving this legacy is a collective responsibility, one that rests on the shoulders of every Maldivian.
Underscoring the importance of unity, the President said national independence can only be sustained through sincere love for the country. He added that the government’s core focus is to develop the Maldivian people and that while foreign support is welcomed when necessary, the most important work must be led by Maldivians themselves.
President Muizzu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing the country through sincere and tireless efforts, grounded in patriotism and guided by a firm sense of national purpose.
