The Kremlin said Tuesday that Russia remains committed to achieving peace in Ukraine, following U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement that he has cut his deadline for Moscow to cease hostilities from 50 days to “about 10 or 12 days.”

In its first response to Trump’s remarks, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Russia had “taken note” of the statement but confirmed that the country’s military operation in Ukraine continues.

“The SVO [special military operation] continues,” Peskov stated, using the term Russia employs to describe its invasion of Ukraine.

Peskov also noted that efforts to restore ties with Washington have slowed, expressing disappointment over the shift in tone. “We would like to see more dynamics. We are interested in this. To move forward, we need impulses from both sides,” he said.

Despite renewed Russian airstrikes across Ukraine on Tuesday that killed over two dozen people—including a 23-year-old pregnant woman and at least 16 prisoners in a single strike—Peskov maintained that Moscow is still committed to peace.

“Moscow remains committed to the peace process to resolve the conflict around Ukraine and secure our interests,” he said.

Talks between Moscow and Kyiv last week failed to produce any significant breakthrough, although both sides agreed to another round of prisoner exchanges.
