The Ministry of Tourism has announced that the six islands designated for the development of halal tourism in the Maldives have received a strong response from investors since opening for investment last month.

The selected islands include: HA. Beenaafushi, HA. Kandaali Finolhu, HDh. Makunudhoo Faru, Sh. Fushifaru, Th. Maagulhi Adhi and L. Funagaadhoo.

Each island, located in a different region, is part of the government’s initiative to promote halal tourism—tourism that adheres to Islamic values and principles.

The Ministry stated that special concessions have been offered to encourage investment. These include flexible payment plans allowing acquisition fees to be paid over five to six years, along with duty exemptions of up to 20 percent.

Resorts developed under this concept will include mosques, prohibit the import of alcohol and pork products, and ensure employee dress codes comply with Islamic standards.

The Ministry added that interested parties may submit expressions of interest until August 4, with formal bid submissions due by September 1.
