President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka has concluded his state visit to the Maldives, marking a significant milestone in bilateral relations between the two countries.

The visit, held at the invitation of Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, featured a ceremonial welcome in Malé and a series of high-level engagements. During the visit, the two leaders held official talks and witnessed the signing of a key Memorandum of Understanding and a treaty aimed at deepening cooperation across multiple sectors.

President Dissanayaka and President Muizzu also delivered joint press statements, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the longstanding ties between the Maldives and Sri Lanka. A state banquet was held in honour of the visiting President, and several Maldivian Cabinet ministers and senior officials paid courtesy calls.

This visit marks President Dissanayaka’s first official trip to the Maldives since taking office in September 2024. The visit coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka, which were established in 1965.
