President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has welcomed the adoption of the “New York Declaration on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution,” issued at a high-level UN conference held from 28–30 July 2025.
In an official statement, President Muizzu described the declaration as an overwhelming show of international support for the permanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people and the recognition of the State of Palestine, including its full membership in the United Nations.
He said the declaration reflects a strong commitment by the global community to aid Palestine’s recovery from continued Israeli aggression and ensure its economic and security viability.
Reaffirming the Maldives’ position, the President stated that the government and people will continue to extend unwavering support for an independent and sovereign State of Palestine based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with UN resolutions and international law.
