Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) President and former Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid has condemned the government’s use of job insecurity to intimidate people.
In a social media statement, Shahid criticized the suspension of five permanent employees at the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), calling the move unjust. He also referenced previous dismissals of permanent staff at the Ministry of Housing.
Shahid emphasized that people cannot be controlled through fear of losing their jobs.
The suspended officials include HDC’s chief planning officer, chief resource officer, and head of the legal department. Former RDC Managing Director Ali Zuhair was appointed HDC Managing Director on July 30.
