President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu unveiled a significant infrastructure development programme for newly reclaimed areas, set to be included in next year’s national budget. He announced while addressing residents of Eydhafushi during his ongoing tour of Baa Atoll’s inhabited islands.

Highlighting systemic gaps in water, sanitation, and electricity networks in reclaimed lands nationwide, the President pledged a dedicated policy to ensure structured and consistent infrastructure development for these areas.

Outlining progress on his election pledges, Dr. Muizzu revealed that construction of 1,000 housing units will begin this year, aiming for completion before his term ends. Harbour upgrades are expected within six months, and work on a new indoor multi-sport complex will start soon. Additionally, a US Dollar ATM service will be introduced on the island this year. Water and energy networks are slated for upgrades over the next two years, alongside the expansion of housing plots.

Eydhafushi is also among the islands selected for new convention centres, with construction planned to start next year.

During his visit, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu inaugurated RTL ferry services in Eydhafushi. He also signed agreements to establish a Maldives National University campus as well as to construct a new building for Baa Atoll Hospital.

Reaffirming national development goals from this year’s Presidential Address, Dr. Muizzu emphasized that these projects promote decentralization and empower citizens. He reminded local councils that their primary responsibility is to implement government policies and serve the public, urging them to prioritize development over political differences.
