President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that housing allocations under the Government’s social housing projects will be made based on the specific needs and circumstances of each island, in accordance with principles set by local councils.
Speaking to residents of B. Thulhaadhoo on Tuesday, the President confirmed plans to build 100 new housing units and facilitate the privatization of 119 reclaimed plots as requested by the community. He emphasized that housing decisions will respect the standards established by island councils to ensure they reflect local priorities.
President Muizzu also pledged to commence work on the newly inaugurated Thulhaadhoo Airport without delay and to strengthen the island’s health sector, including introducing specialist services for women and children.
Highlighting Thulhaadhoo as the second-highest priority in Baa Atoll’s regional development strategy, the President noted that these projects form part of broader plans to boost the island’s growth.
The visit is part of a four-day tour of Baa Atoll, during which President Muizzu will visit all 13 inhabited islands, accompanied by ministers and senior government officials.
