President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to hand over Maamaduvvaree to Hithaadhoo, citing the island’s historical and economic significance to the community.

Speaking during his visit to the island as part of his Baa Atoll tour, he noted that Maamaduvvaree has been under a long-term tourism lease with little development progress and pledged to resolve the agreement in line with legal requirements before transferring it to Hithaadhoo.

During the visit, agreements were signed for the construction of a multipurpose school hall and a land reclamation project. The President assured that the hall would be completed alongside other facilities to support the school. He also confirmed that practical work will begin this year on four key presidential pledges for the island.

On health, President Muizzu said a new Health Centre agreement has been signed, which will expand services to include laboratory and dialysis facilities. In sports and recreation, projects set to begin this year include a full-size football pitch, volleyball court, fitness and recreation centre, and outdoor gym.

The visit also saw the inauguration of Bank of Maldives ATM services in Hithaadhoo.
