President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to resolve long-standing water and sanitation issues in B. Dhonfan, assuring residents that work will begin without delay.
Speaking during his visit to the island, the President identified water and sewage services as the most pressing concerns. He said the Malé Water and Sewerage Company Pvt. Ltd (MWSC) has been instructed to address staffing shortages, either locally or from overseas, and commence the project at the earliest opportunity.
During the visit, President Muizzu also oversaw the signing of agreements for several development projects, including six new classrooms, a multipurpose hall, a library, and a science laboratory for Dhonfan School, as well as the relocation of the island’s channel guiding post. A 13-hectare land reclamation project will expand harbour capacity and create a designated swimming area.
He confirmed that the projects will commence this year, alongside sports facilities including a football field, futsal and handball courts, and plans for a volleyball court and Fitness and Recreation Centre in next year’s budget.
