President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that financing has been secured for infrastructure projects requiring rock boulders, paving the way for the start of key development works, including B. Maalhos harbour.

Speaking to residents during his tour of South Maalhosmadulu Atoll, the President reaffirmed that resolving Maalhos’ harbour issues was a key pledge and vowed to expedite the project. He said the harbour development would serve as a catalyst for further progress, with plans to relocate the island’s powerhouse to reclaimed land and incorporate measures to prevent erosion.

The President also pledged to extend the local health centre with new facilities, complete the football ground, fitness and recreation centre, and outdoor gym within the year. On education, he said the government would address space shortages at Maalhos School and consult the public on development plans.

Earlier in the day, President Muizzu inaugurated Bank of Maldives ATM services on the island and attended groundbreaking ceremonies for a new police office and a mosque.
