Amnesty International has accused Israel of pursuing a “deliberate policy” of starvation in Gaza, as the United Nations and aid groups continue to warn of looming famine in the war-battered territory.
In a report released Monday, the rights group said testimonies from displaced Palestinians and medical staff showed evidence of malnutrition among children, accusing Israel of “systematically destroying the health, well-being and social fabric of Palestinian life.”
Amnesty alleged that Israel’s actions were “part and parcel of its ongoing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.”
Israel, which has strictly limited aid entering the enclave, has repeatedly rejected accusations of deliberately starving civilians. The Israeli defense ministry’s COGAT last week dismissed claims of widespread malnutrition and challenged figures from Gaza’s health ministry.
The latest report comes as Hamas condemned Israel’s relocation plan in southern Gaza, calling it a “new wave of genocide and displacement” and labeling the deployment of tents and shelter equipment a “blatant deception.”
Israeli authorities have not yet commented on Amnesty’s latest findings.
