President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the Presidential Honour for Distinguished Service to the Nation will be awarded to the people of Utheemu, North Thiladhunmathi Atoll, in recognition of their centuries-long role in preserving the country’s heritage.
The honour acknowledges the community’s dedicated efforts in maintaining Utheemu Ganduvaru, a historic site of great national significance that has remained under their care for nearly 500 years.
The award will be officially presented tomorrow at the National Day ceremony in Utheemu, scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. During the event, the President will also confer the National Award of Honour on three individuals, including one posthumously, and present the National Award of Recognition to nine individuals and organizations.
