R-L: Former Vice President Dr. Jameel and President Dr. Muizzu
Former Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has said attempts to restrict people’s opinions and freedom of thought are bound to fail.

In a social media post responding to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s recent remarks, Jameel stated that “anyone who tries to restrain the people’s opinions and thinking will fall to the ground.”

He stressed that freedom of expression is rooted in Islamic principles, noting that speaking the truth and standing against corruption and injustice are noble acts. Jameel said the world is advancing and Maldivians are becoming increasingly aware, making efforts to limit free thought destined for failure.

President Muizzu, speaking at the National Day gathering in Utheemu, said it is not freedom to say or write whatever comes to mind. He added that words or actions that infringe on the rights, reputation, and dignity of others constitute a violation of rights.
