The Human Rights Council has elected Her Excellency Dr. Salma Rasheed, Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations Office in Geneva, as Vice President of the Council for the remainder of 2025.
Dr. Salma was nominated by consensus of the Asia-Pacific Group to represent the region and joins representatives from Chile, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Romania as Vice Presidents of the Bureau.
The Maldives, currently serving its 2023–2025 term on the Council, has previously held the Vice-Presidency in 2013 and 2023. The government said this latest appointment underscores the country’s longstanding commitment to the promotion of human rights and multilateral cooperation.
