Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail has declared that members of the party will not be intimidated by threats of arrest or torture.
His statement followed allegations made by ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) parliamentary group leader Ibrahim Falah, who accused the MDP leadership of large-scale corruption. Falah claimed the party had distributed MVR 800 million to close associates under the guise of reform, diverted foreign aid into private accounts abroad, and awarded hundreds of millions of MVR to companies under the pretext of project implementation.
In response, Fayyaz said the MDP would not be deterred by attempts at intimidation and stressed that the party would continue its work regardless of threats. He also asserted that the time had come to put an end to corruption and urged the government to act swiftly while it has the mandate and authority.
