US President Donald Trump said Friday that India and Russia seem to have aligned with China after their leaders joined President Xi Jinping at a summit in Tianjin, voicing frustration over the shifting geopolitical landscape.

In a social media post, Trump wrote that “India and Russia [are] lost to deepest, darkest China,” alongside a photo of Xi with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He later clarified to reporters that he did not believe the US had lost India, but expressed disappointment over New Delhi’s continued oil purchases from Moscow.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit this week brought together more than 20 non-Western leaders, with Xi, Putin and Modi seen walking together before posing side by side. Trump described Modi as a “great prime minister” and emphasized the strength of US-India ties, while criticizing India’s recent actions.

The comments come as Trump faces challenges in maintaining relations with both New Delhi and Moscow. He has voiced disappointment with Putin but downplayed concerns over deepening Russia-China ties, while continuing to seek an end to the war in Ukraine.

According to reports, India’s foreign ministry declined to comment on Trump’s remarks. Beijing and the Kremlin did not immediately respond either.
