Former Minister of Communication, Science and Technology Mohamed Maleeh Jamal has criticized the government over rising living costs, saying it would be better for the administration to resign after apple prices reached MVR 14.
In a post on social media, Maleeh said the public believes they have never seen a more incompetent government, adding that the surge in prices is symbolic of broader economic mismanagement.
According to the Bureau of Statistics, the Essential Commodities Price Index recorded an increase in prices last month. The Maldives Monetary Authority’s latest economic update also reported inflation at 4 percent.
