President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has strongly condemned the Israeli attack on Doha, the capital of Qatar, describing it as a cowardly act, a serious violation of international law, and a blatant infringement of Qatar’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In a statement on X, President Muizzu reaffirmed that the Maldives stands in solidarity with Qatar and urged the international community to take urgent and collective action to hold Israel accountable for what he described as repeated violations of international norms and principles.

The Israeli military confirmed the explosions in Doha, saying they were the result of an assassination attempt against Hamas leaders. The strike marked Israel’s first attack in Qatar, a key mediator in ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas and host to the US Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American military facility in the region.

According to Hamas sources quoted by Al Jazeera, the attack targeted the group’s negotiating team as they met to discuss the latest US-backed ceasefire proposal.

In a statement, the Israeli military and Shin Bet intelligence service said the operation targeted senior Hamas leaders “directly responsible” for the October 7, 2023 attacks in southern Israel and for waging the ongoing conflict.

The strike comes as Israel continues its bombardment of Gaza, Lebanon, Yemen, and Syria, while also carrying out daily raids in the occupied West Bank.
