The United Nations General Assembly has adopted a resolution recognizing the State of Palestine through the endorsement of the New York Declaration on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution.
The resolution, passed at the 80th Session of the General Assembly with 142 votes in favour, 10 against, and 12 abstentions, was strongly supported by the Maldives.
The declaration, which followed a high-level conference co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia in July 2025, calls for a just and lasting resolution to the Palestinian conflict. It envisions an independent, sovereign, economically viable, and democratic Palestinian state, while reaffirming respect for international law, territorial integrity, human rights, and the right to self-determination.
Reiterating its longstanding stance, the Maldives reaffirmed its commitment to the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, based on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with relevant UN resolutions and international law.
