Israel has resumed its ceasefire with Hamas in Gaza after a day of renewed violence that left dozens dead, with officials confirming that aid deliveries into the enclave will restart on Monday.
The fragile truce, brokered by the United States to end two years of conflict, was briefly shaken when Israeli forces launched airstrikes in response to what they said was an attack by Hamas militants that killed two soldiers. Gaza health officials reported at least 36 Palestinians killed in the strikes, including children.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructed the military to act firmly against ceasefire violations, while U.S. President Donald Trump said the truce “remains in place” but acknowledged “fits and starts” in its enforcement.
Egyptian mediators said urgent talks were underway to de-escalate the situation. Meanwhile, Hamas continued returning the remains of hostages killed during the 2023 war, as discussions in Cairo focused on implementing the next phase of the ceasefire — including disarmament and postwar governance of Gaza.
The war, which began in October 2023, has killed more than 68,000 Palestinians and over 1,200 Israelis.
