President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced an increase in the allowance for single mothers and the introduction of a new monthly allowance for thalassaemia patients, effective January 2026.
Speaking to residents of L. Gan during his tour of the inhabited islands of Hadhdhunmathi, the President stated that MVR 211 million has been allocated in next year’s State budget to raise the allowance for single mothers to MVR 3,000 per child. Additionally, MVR 11.7 million has been set aside to fund the new allowance for thalassaemia patients, providing MVR 1,000 per month for each patient.
The measures reflect the President’s pledge to support previously neglected areas and promote a more compassionate society, while also increasing support for single parents in raising their children, with total assistance reaching MVR 12,000 per family at MVR 3,000 per child.
