In a referendum held to decide whether three districts — Feydhoo, Hulhudhoo, and Meedhoo — should separate from Addu City Council, residents of Feydhoo voted to remain, while Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo chose to form independent councils.

According to official results, 2,421 eligible voters cast their ballots in Feydhoo, with 1,782 voting against separation and 615 voting in favor. In Meedhoo, 1,002 people voted, with 841 supporting separation and 144 opposing. Meanwhile, 1,070 voters participated in Hulhudhoo, where 720 voted in favor of separation and 325 voted against.

The vote was held following requests from residents of the three districts, seeking clarity on forming separate councils. The government stated that the referendum fulfills a presidential campaign promise and affirmed that it would respect the people’s decision without taking a specific stance.
