Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday that Hamas is “determined” to adhere to the Gaza ceasefire, emphasizing the importance of Muslim nations taking a leading role in the reconstruction of the war-torn territory.
Speaking at the annual COMCEC economic cooperation summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul, Erdogan said, “It seems that Hamas is quite determined to adhere to the agreement.”
His remarks came as Turkiye prepared to host foreign ministers from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Pakistan, and Indonesia for talks on Gaza’s reconstruction, amid concerns over the fragile ceasefire that began on October 10.
“We need to deliver more humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza and then begin reconstruction efforts,” Erdogan said, accusing the Israeli government of obstructing aid delivery.
Erdogan also called for the immediate implementation of the reconstruction plan proposed by the Arab League and the OIC in March, stressing that both organizations must play a leading role in Gaza’s recovery.
