Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani has said that international forces to be deployed in Gaza under the US-brokered ceasefire plan must ensure that Palestinians and Israelis do not pose a threat to each other.

In an interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria, Sheikh Mohammed said Qatar is working with the United States to define the mandate of the proposed International Stabilization Force. “The international forces’ role should be securing the Palestinians and the Israelis so that both of them don’t pose a threat to each other,” he said.

Under the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel, a coalition of mainly Arab and Muslim nations is expected to deploy forces in Gaza. Sheikh Mohammed also acknowledged ongoing violations of the truce, saying such incidents “happen every day” and risk undermining the fragile peace.

He reaffirmed Qatar’s support for the Palestinian Authority to serve as the sole governing body of both Gaza and the West Bank, emphasizing the need for a technocratic, apolitical committee to oversee Gaza during the transition period.

“There is no solution except the two-state solution,” Sheikh Mohammed said, stressing the importance of enabling Palestinians and Israelis to live side by side in safety.
