Religious scholar Dr. Mohamed Iyaz has said that society can only be reformed by working together and not by excluding or blaming certain groups.

Speaking on social media about moral issues in society, Dr. Iyaz stressed that maintaining morality is a shared responsibility of all individuals, regardless of gender. He said shame and ethical conduct are not the duty of one group alone, but of society as a whole.

Explaining Islamic teachings, Dr. Iyaz noted that men are commanded to lower their gaze, while women are instructed to uphold chastity, highlighting that Islam assigns balanced responsibilities to both. He said meaningful reform is possible only when everyone upholds these values together.

Dr. Iyaz also criticised approaches that shift blame or avoid responsibility, stating that such actions misrepresent Islamic principles. He concluded by urging individuals to fulfill their legal and moral duties to help build a safe and healthy society.

Dr. Iyaz made the remarks in response to recent changes to the civil service dress code.
