Opposition PPM party’s VP, and parliament member Ahmed Shiyam Said, the first people to work at the covid-19 frontline have not received any allowance yet.
MP Shiyam criticises the allowance distribution system of the state, and has said that the first people to work at the covid-19 frontline; including health professionals and Maldives Police, have not received any allowance yet. He also says that this is an example of how the state does not appreciate or even recognise the frontliners efforts.
The first covid-19 case in Maldives was reported from a Lhaviyani atoll resort. Since then the government has dedicated an allowance for the frontliners. Regarding this, Maldives finance ministry has said that the state has spent 2.9 million MVR as allowance for 220 frontliners, this includes the allowance for the frontliners who worked from March 7th till June. The frontliners allowance distribution was started at the end of July.
Further elaborating, the Finance Ministry has said that the state has spent 44.5 million MVR as allowance for front liners from Maldives Police and Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), and including this, the state has spend a total of 78 million MVR so far, as allowance for front liners.
Allowance is given in different amounts for 3 categories: 500 MVR per day for high risk category, 250 MVR per day for medium risk and 200MVR per day for low risk category.
