The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has confirmed positive cases reported from Dhoonidhoo, Maafushi and Asseyri prisons in the Maldives.
As per the statistics 13 people are positive from Dhoonidhoo. But no further information, such as whether the positive cases were reported within prison officers or inmates, are not yet cleared by the authorities.
With positive cases reported from Dhoonidhoo prison, Maldives Bar Council has alerted lawyers to take precautionary measures when visiting Dhoonidhoo prison.
In addition, Maafushi and Asseyri prisons have reported 1 positive case from each of both prisons. From Maafushi prison an officer is identified as positive to Covid-19 similarly to Asseyri prison as well.
Due to the outbreak in prisons, Maldives Correctional Service has already stated that all the inmates and officers will be tested to Covid-19.
