The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has imposed a new Covid-19 restriction following an increase in Covid-19 daily cases reported in the Maldives.
The order signed by the Director-General of Public Health, Maimoona Aboobakuru released this Sunday has restricted inter-island travel within the atolls. The order bans travel between residential islands except for Male’, Hulhumale’, Vilimale’, Thilfushi and Gulhifalhu unless for essential purposes and access to healthcare.
The new restrictions come into effect starting from Tuesday, May 4, for a one-week period.
With a surge in Covid-19 infections in recent weeks, over 20 residential islands outside of the greater Male' region are placed under monitoring.
