The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced additional restrictions in the greater Male’ area from Wednesday, May 5.
As per the order signed by the Director-General of Public Health Maimoona Aboobakuru, vehicles are banned from 00:00 to 04:00 hours in the greater Male’ region, government offices will be closed, encouraging government employees to work from home where possible and switching services to online platforms where possible. In addition, sports activities and competitions will be banned (except with special permission), while parks, public spaces, sports arenas, athletics tracks, and swimming tracks will be closed.
Furthermore, schools for face-to-face classes will be closed and switched to online classes, although examinations will continue as planned. Under the order, wearing masks and practicing social distancing when praying in mosques are mandatory, while prayer-goers highly encouraged to bring their own prayer mats.
HPA also banned traveling to residential islands and industrial islands unless for essential needs and with special permission. Under the order, considering the health crisis in India with a devastating surge in Covid-19 cases, Maldivians and work permit holders traveling from neighboring India are required to complete 14 days of quarantine and get tested for Covid-19.
