In a statement to mark the World Maritime day, Transport Minister, Ms Aishath Nahula said, that the stated objective is to develop more people in the maritime field and to provide further capacity building training to the local seamans.
In her remarks, the Minister said that the Maldives will be taking part in the International Maritime Labor Convention and ratifying the move very soon. She also said that the state's decision to introduce a shipping company despite the difficult situation with COVID-19, is a chance to increase the capacity of the nation in the maritime industry.
Furthermore in her remark, Minister Nahula urged on taking proper measures and regulations to reduce the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere from the maritime industry ships considering the fact that the nation is already in danger due to global warming and climate change.
The slogan for this year’s Maritime Day is “Sustainable shipping for a sustainable planet”.
