Maldives Police Service has confirmed that the fourth suspect in the terror attack used to work at the Police Service.

Ahmed Fathih, 23 was arrested as a suspect in relation to the terrorist attack on May 6 targeting former President and current speaker of the Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed. He was arrested as the fourth suspect related to the case.

Following his arrest, prior to Police sharing any further details, news spread across describing him as a former Police officer.

Commenting on this matter, Police has confirmed that Fathih indeed was a Police officer. Police also said he resigned from Police duties in his own will, this year.

While it is out to clear that a former Police officer is involved in the terror attack directed towards President Nasheed, he has previously shared that he had suspicion towards some Police officers spying on him.

The terrorist attack took place with a homemade remote-controlled IED, strapped to a motorcycle parked near President Nasheed’s residence. It was detonated just as President Nasheed exited his residence and went to get in his car.
