May 23, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has reported 1559 additional cases of Covid-19. But HPA has not released any details of the pending results from backlogged pending samples taken earlier this month. HPA is also yet to confirm whether the backlog is cleared or not.

The total positive cases recorded include 1,135 people infected in the greater Male’ area and 424 people infected outside the greater Male’ area. Out of this, 20 people are positive from operational resorts, and 401 people are positive from inhabited islands.

With additional cases of the Covid-19, confirmed cases in the Maldives have increased up to 55,924 cases, including 23,464 active cases to Covid-19.

So far, HPA has taken 5,834 test samples within the last 24 hours.

HPA also reported that 510 people have recovered in the last 24 hours, which increases the total recoveries to 32,322.

According to HPA, there are 290 patients admitted to hospitals, and the Maldives has recorded 129 deaths from Covid-19 complications.

In addition to this, a total of 305,850 people across the Maldives have received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine from the nationwide inoculation drive. Out of which, 156,002 people have received the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
