As per the recently published guidelines by the Health Protection Agency (HPA), anyone travelling from islands with guest houses to other islands, will have to be quarantined for a period of 14 days, and a test sample has to be taken at the end of the quarantine period.
But the recently published SOP for the tourism sector gives special consideration to waive this quarantine period when travelling from islands with guest houses to other islands. These special considerations include travelling in an emergency or for medical purposes. SOP further states on conditions the special permits will be released to.
Special condition conditions as per the SOP includes, the person travelling from islands with guest houses to other islands, have to be someone who wears the face mask at all times, and he/she should not have engaged closely with the tourist in guest houses, and the person should not have stayed in a guesthouse. The SOP further states that the person should avoid dining in restaurants and cafe’s from the islands with guest houses, although take away or delivered food service is acceptable.
As per the SOP, anyone traveling from the greater Male’ area to islands with guest houses, they cannot stay in guesthouses and if anyone is traveling from another island to islands with guest houses, if they stay in a guest house, they cannot go and visit other local residents in the island. And if anyone is travelling back to another island after staying in a guest house, they have to complete a 14 day quarantine period.
SOP further states that tourists cannot travel between the islands with guest houses and islands without guest houses. But tourists can travel between islands with guest houses without any restrictions and there will not be any restrictions in travelling between resorts and islands with guest houses as well. SOP restricts on travelling to and from islands under monitoring status of HPA. As per SOP, each tourist should complete an exit screening for any signs or symptoms before travelling out of the islands with guest houses.
If a tourist or a staff in a guest house has suspected symptoms, they have to get isolated and tested for covid-19 through the flu clinics in the islands. The permit to re-open guest houses will be given if a flu clinic is operated in the island. The islands with guest houses should also have a quarantine facility considering the capacity of total tourist beds in the islands.
Guest houses other than in the greater Male’ area, are set to open on 15th of October. Once the guesthouses are open, strict measures on wearing face masks in public places should be followed by the locals as well as tourists.
