The Spokesperson at the President’s Office, Mohamed Mabrook Azeez has announced that 84 percent of the eligible population over the age of 18 years had been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

Mabrook announced this while speaking at the press conference providing the latest information on the primary effort in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, which is immunization.

“84 percent of the people above the age of 18 years in the Maldives have now been vaccinated. We hope to increase this to 90 percent by the end of this month,” he said.

In addition, 81 percent of the eligible population above the age of 12 years had been vaccinated, said Mabrook. Speaking further, Mabrook also highlighted that in comparison with the rest of the world, the Maldives had made significant progress in its vaccination program.

Earlier this month, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced that the state has successfully acquired enough doses of the Pfizer vaccine to immunize all children in the Maldives between the ages of 12 and 17 years.

As of Saturday, 299,077 people have been fully vaccinated in the Maldives. The Maldives has now successfully acquired enough doses of the vaccine to inoculate all residents and the government aims to fully inoculate 90 percent of the eligible population by the end of August 2021.
