Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor, accepts and pled guilty to all the 7 charges against him in connection to the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) embezzlement and money laundering scandal.

Further speaking at the recent court hearing Adeeb said he has repented to God, and apologized to the Maldivian people for his part in the MMPRC scandal.

Adeeb also said that the former administration by President Yameen had no intention of investigating the case and recovering the funds, he then continued to praise the current government, and said that he is confident that the current government will recover the funds.

Adeeb accused former Maldivian President Yameen saying that MMPRC had leased islands under the direct instructions of the President’s Office. “This was run under a precisely planned, organized scam by the previous government with the involvement of many,” he said.

Adeeb asked for leniency in sentencing in light of his show of his cooperation, meanwhile he faces 20 years in prison for the charges under the plea deal.

The sentencing hearing is scheduled for Monday, October 5.
