Suspected incharge of drug trafficking, Abdulla Ibrahim
Police seized 98.6 kilos of drugs and arrested 14 people from the special operations in Addu City.

As per the recent statement by Maldives Police service, the 14 people arrested were between 23 years and 40 years. Police have been running the special narcotics operation in Addu city since 1st of October, and have already seized 98.6 kilos of drugs, which includes MDMA, Amphetamine and Heroin.

Police have also said that the incharge of drug trafficking is suspected to be Abdulla Ibrahim from S. Hithadhoo. He was also arrested in 2019 for drug trafficking during, but he was released from criminal court back then. Police further said that he has a history of drug trafficking and other criminal records.

Regarding the case, Hithadhoo Magistrate Court decided to keep Abdulla Ibrahim, and Mohamed Yameen Naseer under custody and continue further investigations. The court has also extended the custodial period for 5 more detainees for further investigations related to the case.

Police have also confirmed no involvement of any foreign intelligence reports to the operations.

Further in the statement Police have said that they have reached out to the international intelligence for further investigation on connection of the case to any international drug trafficking.

Police are still continuing the operation checking further areas of Addu City.
