The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has imposed restriction measures at the Capital amidst the increasing number of daily positive COVID-19 cases.
The announcement signed by the Director-General of Public Health Maimoona Aboobakuru publicized this evening read that the positivity rate in Male’ area has exceeded five percent, therefore all outbound travelers from Male' area will be mandated PCR testing.
HPA said that if 14 days have passed since the second shot for individuals who are fully vaccinated traveling out of Male’ area – they will be required to present a negative PCR test taken 72 hours prior. Those who are not fully vaccinated will be mandated to undergo a quarantine period of 14 days followed by a PCR test.
If the PCR test is positive they must remain in quarantine until full recovery.
In addition, HPA has also decided to enforce restrictive measures in light of the detection of the new COVID-19 variant, Omicron, in the Maldives. These include, barring holding sports competitions and matches with the participation of spectators, barring events and ceremonies that involve the attendance of more than 50 people.
The new restrictions will be effective from Wednesday, January 10, 2022.
