Maldives Police Services have arrested four people including a Police officer under Human trafficking charges.
The Police officer who was arrested has been suspended from his duties, and is on no-pay, says the Police Service. The four of them were arrested on January 5.
Police also stated that out of the four people arrested, one is a foreigner. The detainees are aged between 28 - 65, said the Police.
While further investigations are being held, the court has remanded two of the arrested people for 15 days and the other two for 10 days.
With the number of human trafficking cases in the Maldives have increased the government has undertaken several key initiatives, which include the establishment of an Anti-Trafficking in Persons (Anti-TIP) Office as well as the appointment of a Director of Anti-Human Trafficking at the Ministry of Defense.
