Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reiterated India’s commitment to supporting Maldives to overcome the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Modi made the statement in a tweet this evening, wishing the Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih a speedy recovery from Covid-19 and good health.

“Hoping for your speedy recovery and good health. Our best wishes are with you and the people of Maldives in successfully overcoming the challenges of COVID. India will continue to extend full support to your efforts,” said PM Modi in his tweet.



President Solih confirmed today afternoon that has tested positive for Covid-19 and is staying isolated at home.

The Government of India has provided generous assistance to the Maldives during the challenging times of Covid-19, including assisting in the evacuation of Maldivians in Wuhan, donating essential medicines and essential food items, and granting 200,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine, as the first recipients outside India.
