Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s candidate Mohamed Raashid has won the by-election for Parliament's Komandoo constituency.

Raashid took lead competing against candidate from the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Moosa Fathuhee and Maldives National Party (MNP)’s candidate Abdul Hannan Idris.

The temporary result of the by-election showed Raashid in lead for ballot boxes placed in three islands.

From the ballot box placed in Foakaidhoo island, Raashid won 420 votes while his closest opponent candidate from PPM, Moosa Fathuhee, won 402. MNP’s candidate Hannan received only 23 votes from the ballot box placed in Foakaidhoo island.

From the ballot box placed in Maroshi island, Raashid won 161 votes, Moosa Fathuhee, won 95, and Hannan received 37votes.

The temporary count from the ballot box placed in Komandoo island showed 303 votes for Raashid, 244 votes for Moosa Fathuhee, and 101 votes for Hannan.

Out of the 2 ballot boxes placed in Male’, only one has been counted so far. The temporary count from it showed 234 votes for Raashid, 178 votes for Moosa Fathuhee, and 69 votes for Hannan.

By-election for Parliament's Komandoo constituency was held as the seat was left vacant following the death of MP Hussain Waheed on December 14.
