Former President and Current Speaker of the Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed has stated that the Floating City development will provide more housing, and congratulated Bison Maldives and Dutch Docklands Maldives for breaking ground on developing the first-ever Floating City in the Maldives.

Last week Bison Maldives, a major resort construction company based in the Maldives, signed the contract with Dutch Docklands Maldives for the construction of the first homes in the first-ever Floating City in the Maldives. The development of 5,000 floating homes will be constructed in a lagoon five minutes speedboat ride from Male’.

The 5,000 housing units will be tethered to the lagoon floor and linked together to create a safe and comfortable environment. Floating City will also use the latest technology from the Netherlands, where engineers have already completed floating housing projects.

Reflecting on this, Nasheed stated that in addition to providing more housing to Greater Male’ area the Floating City development is also an innovation for climate adaptation.

As per Bison Maldives, the first houses of the Maldives Floating City will be ready after Ramadan, and they will be open to the public shortly afterwards.
