State authorities under investigation through the commission formed by the President Ibrahim Solih, for neglecting the cases related to children.
As per the statement released by the commission, an audit is ongoing from the child abuse cases reported to the Ministry of Gender and Social Services and cases reported to Maldives Police Service. Which will ensure how these authorities have acted upon the reported cases as well.
The commission also assured that the commission is also working on investigating the states authorities neglect towards the child abuse cased along with reviewing and strengthening laws related to child rights.
In the statement, the commission also stated that visitation has been made to the children shelters run by the government through 10th March till 14th April this year to observe the condition of the shelters and how the children are looked after. An observation report from these visits, along with things to improve in the children shelters run by the government, have been submitted to the President.
The commission also highlighted the commission members visit to Dhoonidhoo prison, Asseyri prison, and Atholhu Vehi Custodial and observed its condition, risks involved and services provided. From which, commissions observations and things to improve have been shared with the President.
Although the pandemic has brought a lot of challenges to process the Commission tasks swiftly, the commission has stated that the goal is to complete the commissions work in a timely manner to ensure the rights of the children are met, and improve the process of service provided to them from the authorities.
