High Commissioner of Bangladesh Rear Admiral S M Abul Kalam Azad, NGP, ndc, psc, paid a courtesy call on Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid today.
During the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Shahid congratulated the High Commissioner on presenting his credentials to President Solih and expressed confidence that the relations between the two countries will be further enhanced during his tenure.
Minister Shahid acknowledged the time-tested close relations between Maldives and Bangladesh and expressed his gratitude to the Government of Bangladesh for the numerous contributions toward the development of Maldives. Minister Shahid in particular noted the generous assistance extended by Bangladesh to the Maldives in combatting COVID-19 and the valuable contributions made by Bangladeshi workers in the socio-economic sector.
Foreign Minister Shahid and High Commissioner Rear Admiral Azad agreed that regularisation of the undocumented workers is of the highest priority, and crucial for ensuring their safety, security, and protection of their rights.
Recalling the many high-level visits exchanged between the two countries last year, Minister Shahid noted that the bilateral relations between the two countries have reached unprecedented levels.
High Commissioner Rear Admiral Azad thanked Minister Shahid for the warm welcome and conveyed his strong commitment to work closely with the Government of Maldives in areas of common interest.
