Minister of Finance, Ibrahim Ameer calls to avoid spreading false information on loan agreements and to avoid encouraging decreasing the rates provided to the Maldives from the credit agencies.

Speaking at the finance committee of the parliament, Minister Ameer said that spreading false information on loan agreements can lead to creating doubts towards the Maldives from the development investors and loan providers. He also added that this may affect future loan agreements from the state.
Minister Ameer further details that both parties under a loan agreement, have to act accordingly abiding the agreement and the terms and conditions in an agreement are strictly confidential to the agreement parties, hence the details of the terms and conditions of these agreements cannot be disclosed without permission from parties involved in the loan agreements.

Minister Ameer also said publishing information against the agreement could lead to losing the trust of the state and the government to the loan providers which can affect future support agreements and investor confidence. He further assures that the information in managing the loan agreements are followed and maintained.

Minister further advised not to encourage any disadvantages at a time of selling bonds/Sukuk in the international market.

Meanwhile, the speaker of the parliament, Mr. Nasheed is accused of spreading false information regarding the China loan agreements on different platforms nationally and internationally.
