Parliament member Ikram Hassan has apologized to the Rapid Response Team (RRT) Official, following public concerns raised for assaulting an RRT official.

In a tweet on Monday evening, Ikram said that he had met with the RRT official who did the nasal swab test on him, as well as her mother, and apologized for what he may have said/done. Ikram also apologized to all members of the RRT at the Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC).

MP Ikram is in accuse of threatening the RRT official and for allegedly attacking a healthcare professional who was collecting samples for COVID-19 from the parliamentarian.

Although Ikram denied the accusation of hitting an RRT official, the incident is logged and investigated at Maldives Police Services.

In a recent statement by the Maldives Health Professional Union (MHPU) has also raised concerns for threatening an RRT official and for allegedly attacking healthcare professional. MHPU has condemned the actions of the elected representative of the public for attacking a regular healthcare worker and harassing them.

The incident took place at the COVID-19 testing center in Maafannu Madharusa on 9th October.
